Changing your city
You can change your city by tapping the box underneath the CitiKey logo – you can add more cities from the Personalisation Screens on the website.
Choosing one of the main categories (eating & drinking, entertainment or shopping) will take you directly to the search page for that category.
The navigation toolbar is found on each main page of the application. It is used for basic navigation within CitiKey.
5. Forward, Home and Back
The Arrow and Home icons move you backwards and forwards one page within CitiKey. A shaded icon denotes that the option is unavailable to you.
6. Search and Map tabs
The Search and Map tabs lead to these two screens.
You can beam CitiKey to a friend by tapping the Beam button and then follow the beaming instructions.
There are 2 ways to find exactly what you are looking for:
1. Browsing
If you are looking for a new place in a
specific area (such as a bar or a restaurant), you can browse through the all
the listings.
|
|
You can browse the listings by the categories. These categories are available as a pull down list. |
Once you have selected your category, you can narrow down your choice by choosing a subcategory from the list on the left (1). The list on the right shows all the listings in the subcategory you have chosen (2). |
Sorting the results
|
|
You can choose to look for items alphabetically or by the listings that are nearest to your location. |
However, until a location has been set, “Set Location” will be displayed at the top of the screen. Tapping on this will take you to the Set Location page. |
The Set Location Screen lets you tell CitiKey where you are, so that you can search for any of the listings near to you, or to see where you are on the map.
|
|
Choose either Street or Intersection as the method to input your location – from the drop down box. |
Enter in the first few letters of the street, and a list of streets which match the letters will be displayed. |
|
|
Select the street by tapping on it, and repeat the process for the intersecting street (if entering an intersection). |
You must then tap the “Set Location…” button to set your location. |
|
|
By tapping “Set Location…” you
will be taken to either the map or the search page, depending on which box
is checked. |
By tapping on the Map or Search tabs,
you will go directly to these pages BUT the location you
entered will not be set. |
3.1. How to search by the listing
that is nearest to your location
|
Once you have successfully set your location, you can search the listings so that the closest items are displayed first, for example, French restaurants near Stratton Street above. |
3.2. How to search the listings by name
If you know the name of the restaurant, club or other service that you are looking for, you can use this shortcut to find it quickly without having to look through all the listings.
Enter the first character(s) of the place you are looking for in the Name field and the listings in the right hand box will change. Tap C to clear your entry.
These pages contain all of the information about a chosen listing, such as a restaurant, shop, or service. The information is displayed on three screens: Info, Details and Review.
|
|
The Info screen contains the basics, including address and telephone numbers. |
The Details screen has more specific information, including opening hours, public transport information and credit cards accepted. |
|
|
The review contains a
short description, written specifically for CitiKey in a concise,
understandable format. |
|
|
The ‘On Map’ button next the listing’s name will take you to the map. The listing you have chosen will be in the centre of the Map screen. At the same time, it will set this listing as your location. The Menu Bar at the top of the screen will display “Setting New Location” |
The arrows in the Menu Bar allow scrolling through the listings without having to return to the main search pages. This allows easy browsing of the listings within a category. |

|
|

The map controls are on the top right of the Map Page. |
Tapping the left-hand icon puts the map in Query Mode, so that tapping on the map will display the name of a street or listing icon. |
The street name or listing icon
nearest to the tap will appear in the lower left corner of the map and the
item will be highlighted on the map itself.
|
5.2.
Using the Map in Centre Mode
|
|
![]() |
The middle button is the Map Centre Tool, so that after highlighting this tool, tapping on the map will centre the map on that point. |
Note: This will also change the location used for searching. |
When the map is redrawing, you will be reminded that you have changed your location by the words “Setting New Location…” in the Menu Bar. |
5.3.
Using Zoom Control
|
|
On the right is the zoom indicator, showing the current level of zoom. Tapping on it lets you change the zoom level – from x1 to x16 |
Note that all streets will appear on all zoom levels except x1. |
5.4.
Adjusting the grayscale settings
|
|
If you are having trouble viewing the map, you may need to adjust your grayscale settings. These setting can be accessed by tapping on the Citikey logo in the Menu Bar, and tapping “Grayscale” from the dropdown menu. |
By tapping on the white squares, you can change the grayscale levels to make the map display clearer on your Palm device. |
