Preferences setting must be correctly configured before using PaPi-Mail(R).
Palm OS 4.0 is used for screenshots in this part. It may look different from other versions of Palm OS.
For the earlier version than the Palm OS 3.3, refer to Appendix A. Settings for Palm OS handhelds [Earlier than Palm OS 3.3].
Open the Network Preferences screen of Palm OS handheld by selecting [Network Prefs] from the Options nemu in PaPi-Mail. Select [New] from the Service menu, then set up as follows:

Identify the created Network Preferences by entering a name in the Service field.
Enter a dial-up account name in the User Name field.
Select a Connection configuration from the Connection drop-down list. If necessary, create a new configuration in the Connection Preferences.
Tap the Password and Phone boxes to enter a dial-up password and dial-up phone number as shown below:

The Idle timeout setting defines how long your Palm OS handheld waits before dropping the connection with your ISP or dial-in server when you switch out of a TCP/IP applicaion.
For details of each settings, refer to the Handbook of your Palm OS handheld.
Select [Connection Prefs] from the Options nemu in PaPi-Mail to open the Connection Preferences screen of Palm OS handheld, and set up each setting to be applied to your mobile environment.
To exchange messages using IR technology, tap the New button, then select [Modem] at "Connect to:" and [Infrared] at "Via:". Set up other items accordingly.

Increase the TCP/IP Timeout setting in the [General Setup] - [Receive] of PaPi-Mail. 60 Sec is recommended. It tends to drop network connection with the short TCP/IP Timeout setting.
